Dominican Friars of the Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus
As members of the Order of Preachers, and faithful sons of the Roman Catholic Church,
we are called to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world, following the example of Saint Dominic.
We, the Dominican Friars of the Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the salvation of souls, formed by our vowed life of community, prayer and study.
Whether from the pulpit, online, or on the street, “the object of our preaching is either to cause the faith to be born, or to allow it to penetrate people’s entire lives…thus building the Body of Christ which is brought to perfection by the sacraments of faith.”
(Fundamental Constitutions of the Order of Preachers)
The Dominican friars engage in a number of academic, pastoral, and missionary apostolates around the world.
True to our tradition and history, a number of friars serve as itinerant preachers, traveling extensively in order to proclaim the Gospel. Other friars provide pastoral care at parishes and university Newman Centers, or are engaged in missionary work with the poor and marginalized. Many friars are involved in academic ministry, researching and teaching the richness of the Catholic intellectual tradition in colleges and seminaries around the world. Finally, there are those friars who serve in specialized ministries, touching every facet of human life.
Just as our Lord called the Apostles and our Holy Father St. Dominic, He is also calling you. Since the Order’s foundation in 1216, thousands of men have responded to the Lord’s call by serving Him as Dominican friars. Join us and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the salvation of souls.
Nourished by our life in common, plus many hours at study and prayer, Dominicans offer our very lives for the sake of preaching the Gospel. What we receive from the Lord, we pass on to others, so that all may come to know and love the Lord.
Like the first apostles, Dominicans are sent out to proclaim the Gospel in every time and place – evangelizing, combating heresy and error, and performing the spiritual works of mercy.
Dominicans profess obedience, and embrace a life of poverty and chastity for the sake of the Kingdom. In doing so, we strive to achieve more perfect union with God in this life, and serve as a witness to the perfect union that is to come in the next.
“In the consecrated life, Christ’s faithful, moved by the Holy Spirit, propose to follow Christ more nearly, to give themselves to God who is loved above all and, pursuing the perfection of charity in the service of the Kingdom, to signify and proclaim in the Church the glory of the world to come” (CCC, 916).
