Fr. Humbert Vincent Palmer, OP
Vincent Basil Palmer was born of William Joseph Palmer and Mary Jane McNamara in Petaluma,
California, on August 24, 1889.
He entered the Order of Preachers on 16 September 1912,
taking the name Humbert. On 10 June 1917, he made his solemn profession at the
Priory of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. There, from 1913 to 1919, he
studied philosophy and theology at the Dominican House of Studies.
He was ordained a priest there on 10 May 1918. Father Palmers first
assignment was to St. Dominics Priory, San Francisco in July 1919, where he remained
for sixteen years. He served also in Vallejo, Benicia, Portland, Seattle and
Berkeley; his assignments included Diffinitor General, Confessor, Provincial Secretary and
Director of the Third Order. He was also one of the friars responsible for the first
issue of Dominicana. He died on 21 February 1956. |
