Fr. Damian Girard Giannotti, OP
A native of Sacramento, California, Father Damian attended grammar school at St. Dominic
School (San Francisco), and entered the Dominican novitiate in 1929.
After three years
he left the Order and attended a number of colleges and universities, including Harvard
Business School, and served in the Merchant Marine during World War II.
In 1950, Father Damian returned to the Dominicans and was ordained in 1955. Father Damian was assigned to Dominican parishes in
California, Washington and Oregon, but he was best known as a chaplain. He was a hospital chaplain in San Francisco for 11
years, and he spent the last 22 years of his life with the Dominican Cloistered nuns at
the Monastery of the Angels in Los Angeles.
