Fr.
Nathan Gerard Castle, OP
I'm originally from Groves, Texas. I'm one of five kids; two brothers and two
sisters. Both of my aunts are Dominicans. I'm a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio,
where I studied Gerontology and the social sciences. I entered the Dominicans in 1979 after a year
as a layman at St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana. I was ordained in 1985.
Much of my priesthood has been lived as a campus minister. I've served at The University of
Arizona in Tucson, The University of California, Riverside, and recently completed twelve years at
Arizona State University in Tempe. I'm just beginning at Stanford University in Palo Alto,
California.
While at Tempe I was involved in that community's effort to build a new Newman Center. I
learned how to do development work as a ministry. I don't consider myself a fund-raiser, because
funds, are temporary. Dominicans, indeed all followers of Jesus, are given a more important
charge: to invite all people into the heart of God. Our province's brothers have asked me to lead
our Lighting the Way campaign to secure the future of our seminary, the Dominican School of
Philosophy and Theology.
I've just become the chair of the Executive Board of the Catholic Campus Ministry Association.
I'm very involved in our Development Institute and the new Center for Visionary Ministry.
I'm working on a book and play some golf when I can.
