Br. Christopher Saliga, a
member of the Eastern Province is a 1st philosophy student at the DSPT. Prior to
entering the novitiate for the Dominican Province of Saint Joseph, I spent fourteen years
working in both Paramedicine and Nursing. Ten of those years were spent on active
military service. After spending a few years as a Combat Medic with the United
States Army, I decided to leave active service to study Nursing. Upon completion of
my studies, I accepted a direct commission into the United States Navy Nurse Corps.
It was while I was with the Navy, stationed at Naval Medical Center Oakland, California
that I began to experience an interest in the Dominican Order; thus, I left active Naval
Service to more fully explore the possibility of entering the Dominican Life.
Most recently, I spent 1996-1998 working as a Clinical Nursing Instructor
for the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio, and serving as a Reserve Nurse
Corps Officer with the United States Marine Corps Reserves out of Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania. It was during these two years that I would begin my formal inquiry
into the Order of Friars Preachers. I recently completed my novitiate and profession
of simple vows on 15 August 99 at Saint Gertrude's Priory in Cincinnati, Ohio. As
you might imagine, I am happy to be back in the San Francisco Bay Area in this new and
wonderful walk of life in the Dominican Order. |
