Br. Andy Pavlak, O.P. is visiting the Western Province, St. Albert's Priory and G.T.U. just after professing his
solemn (final) vows with his home community in the Central Province at St. Dominic Priory
in St. Louis, Missouri on Labor Day weekend 9/4/98.Originally
from the Southwest side of Chicago, he was a banker at the Harris Trust & Savings Bank
-- the third largest bank in that city -- for 13 years working his way up the corporate
ladder from the Operations Department to various Corporate and Private Banking positions.
Br. Andy looks forward to being ordained a deacon on April 17,
1999 with ordination to the priesthood scheduled to follow on Mother's Day weekend 2000.
Responding to the question, "Why did you choose the Dominicans?" He
responded, "The gospel call to proclaim the Word of God to the people drew me to this
great Order of Preachers." Regarding a possible first assignment, Br. Andy has
a desire to be placed at the Aquinas Newman Center -- the University of New Mexico,
Albuquerque Campus Ministry Community -- where he did his pastoral year on internship in
1996-1997. He has a passion for fine, well prepared, well presented and prayerful
liturgy. This may possibly lead to further studies after he finishes his current
M.A. in Theology and M.Div degrees.
His non-church interests include: traveling, visiting family
members and friends all over the country, going to movies, wine-tasting (a great thing to
do in the Bay Area), going to various types of concerts and galleries, as well as reading
an occasional Andrew Greeley novel. |
