Parish Ministries
The nine parishes presently under the direction of the Dominican friars of the Western Dominican Province stretch from Alaska to Mexico on the West coast of the United States. Some of them are actually owned by the Dominicans, others operated for the Diocese or Archdiocese they are in. Our oldest Dominican foundation is the Dominican Church of St. Dominic in Benicia, CA in continuous operation since 1854. Our newest is a return to Mexicali, Mexico in 1996 with the establishment of Santa Maria de Guadalupe Parish. Of the nine institutions Benicia (1854), San Francisco (1873), Portland (1894), and Seattle (1908) are what is known as beneplacitum pleno iure foundations, owned by the order and operating public ministries with the blessing of the local (arch)bishop.
