Dear Friends,

For the past 30 years the Dominicans of the Western Province have been a part of the Graduate Theological Union, (GTU) in Berkeley. The Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology has provided the education of all our priests and brothers. Our focus in philosophy and the theology of St Thomas Aquinas have provided a moderating influence and a strong traditional presence for all those preparing for ordained or non-ordained ministry in the Church.

For three decades we have rented space from our Episcopalian friends at the GTU and dreamed of having our own building. At last this dream has become a real possibility with a recent development at the GTU. We have begun negotiations with the Jewish community to purchase their property located in close proximity to our current location to be used as the new home for the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology.

As you know property in Berkeley, especially so close to University of California in Berkeley, is very expensive. It will cost $3,000.000.00 just to purchase the building. It will cost an additional 3 million to retrofit and remodel it to suit our needs. This is why we need the help of all our friends to achieve this goal.

Raising this sort of money may seem to be an impossible dream, but the friends of St. Jude Shrine know that with God all things are possible and with God’s help and the intercession of St. Jude, we will find a way to secure the future of our Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology. This will insure that we may continue to train and educate Dominican priests to provide faithful service to the Church and to all of you in the future.

Please remember us when giving tax deductible gifts, your generosity is helping us achieve our goal. If you have any questions regarding this issue please contact Fr. Jose W. Pimentel, O.P. at (510) 596-1884.
