The Dominicans Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus

Fr. Sadoc Francis Welch, OP

Fr. Francis was another vocation from San Francisco.  He was a true missionary priest, spending his life working among the parishes run by the Dominican friars.  His ministry brought him to places such as:

St. Dominic Church, Benicia, California
St. Dominic Church, San Francisco, California
St. Catherine's Parish, Martinez, California
Holy Rosary Parish, Portland, Oregon

Rheumatism was a chronic problem for Fr. Francis, and he offered his poor health and ailing body to God for the good of others' souls.  In this, many knew his uncomplaining and gentle disposition was not by accident, but rather a wonderful example of God's grace at work for the sanctification of souls.  His rheumatism was not of the most critical nature until the final ten days when he was confined to his bed.  Even then, his death at the age of forty-one came as surprise, as most thought he would recover.
