The Dominicans Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus

Br. Mark James Rodden, OP

Br. Mark was born of Michael Rodden and Mary Murphy in Cascade, Wisconsin.  He went to public school in a rural district.  We do not know what brought him to California for a religious vocation, but he was received in Benicia as a tertiary on September 23, 1894; he was thirty-three.  Four years later he took simple vows for three years, becoming a cooperator brother, and then took solemn vows in due course.  He worked as a gardener at St. Dominic's in Benicia, California, which was a community of formation.  By the time he had died he had spent fifty years as a religious.
