The Ordination of
Fr. David Orique, O.P.

St. Dominic Church
San Francisco, California
June 2, 2001

Opening procession. Bros. Jerome Cudden & Robert King carry banners.
The splendor of St. Dominic Church in San Francisco provides a fitting environment for the all sacramental celebrations, especially Holy Orders.  Bros. Jerome Cudden and Robert King lead the procession with the black and white banners symbolizing the Dominican Order.

Bishop John Steinbock of Fresno receives promise of obedience. Novice Br. Dominic DeMaio is the Acolyte.
The ordaining prelate was Bishop John Steinbock of the diocese of Fresno.  Here he receives priest candidate Rev. Bro. David Orique's promise to be obedient to his Ordinary, who in the case of Dominican Friars, is the Prior Provincial.

Priest candidate Rev. Brother David Orique lies prostrate before the sanctuary as the community prays for him that the Holy Spirit will come upon him and all the saints of heaven might keep him in God's care.

After the Ordaining Prelate has offered the prayer of ordination and laid hands on the new priest, the priests of the community come forward and also lay hands on the newly ordained priest.  Here the Prior Provincial, Fr. Daniel Syverstad lays hands on Fr. David Orique.

Because of the sacred nature of the office bestowed, the hands of the newly ordained are anointed with Holy Chrism and particularly dedicated to the celebration of Eucharist and the bestowing of blessings for the People of God.  Traditionally the linens used in the anointing are given to the mother of the newly ordained priest.  Here the Student Master, Fr. Christopher Renz, and Br. James Thomas assist Fr. David Orique in the removal of the excess Chrism.

For the first time Fr. David Orique concelebrates the Mass with the other priests and Bishop Steinbock.  Here are shown Rev. Mr. Edward Harmon (one of the Deacons for the Mass and ordination), Bishop John Steinbock, and Fr. David Orique at the elevation at the end of the Eucharistic Prayer.

At the conclusion, as at the beginning of Mass, the celebrants and the deacon kiss the Altar, the locus of God's saving action through the celebration of the Eucharist.  Shown here are Rev. Mr. Edward Harmon, Fr. David Orique, and Rev. Bro. Peter Rogers (the other Deacon for the Mass and Ordination).

On the steps in front of St. Dominic Church in San Francisco,  Rev. Mr. Edward Harmon, Bishop John Steinbock, Fr. David Orique, OP, and Rev. Bro. Peter Rogers, OP, pause for a picture for Fr. David's album.
