The Call
Vocations find their true meaning in Christ

Three young men share their stories as they are just days away from receiving an irreversible grace of being ordained priests. They speak about how they were influenced by others and how they could not avoid the call from God to be men who serve others.

Keeping up Appearances
A Homily Plan by
Fr. David Orique, OP
Tuesday of the 28th Week in Ordinary Time
2011
Luke 11: 37-41
Luke 11,37-41 (Keeping Up Appearances, Tuesday 28th Wk OT, A)
Focus: Keeping Up Appearances.
Function: To remind hearers to keep up the internal.
I. Keeping Up Appearances
Perhaps most of you are familiar with the BBC production of “Keeping Up Appearances,” a humorous sitcom about the great lengths that one woman goes to project the appearance of “class” and “culture”, her wanting to be something she clearly is not; wanting to be perceived as richer and more cultured. Seemingly, the point of the comedy is to poke holes in the pretension of British society. Yet, appearance and pretense are hardly the exclusive domain of the British.
II. Appearing to Others
As Christians in general, and as Dominicans in particular, perhaps the challenge is choosing between the appearance and the essential. In today’s Gospel, Jesus is calling for authenticity—not for merely appearances. He is calling for a transformative inner living relationship with Him that extends far beyond stale rule keeping. He is calling His followers to live His authentic Gospel message of life and love. He condemns being Pharisaic, appearing “perfect” and unapproachable; because He knows better than ourselves that we sinners. May we—as redeemed followers of Christ—be authentic Christian witnesses, bearers of the Gospel’s invitation to a deep and dynamic personal relationship with the Risen Lord.
There will certainly be joy in it.
And, there might even be a bit of humor in it.Mission West Newsletter

Mission West:
Campaign for Dominican Friars
Simple, Safe, Secure
Donations made easy
Mission West: Campaign for Dominican Friars is a capital campaign to raise critical funds for the support of our mission of evangelization and preaching the gospel. Our mission begins by forming and educating our novices and student brothers to become good priests and brothers, zealous for Christ and His Gospel. We must also care for our aged friars who, having dedicated many years in service to the people of God are now offering their continued service in prayer during their retirement, often requiring specialized care. This is why our new, three-year effort to raise $15 million is subtitled Campaign for Dominican Friars.

Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology
Tradition Today
At DSPT we are a community engaged in study that is rooted in tradition and provides answers to today's challenges.
"Undoubtedly one of the strengths of the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology is the ability it fosters in its students to dialogue, on the intellectual level, with contemporary society ....The faculty is both academically prepared and doctrinally sound."
